Keeping Your Hair Healthy with Hair Extensions

We always want what we don't have and hair is no different. Hair extensions have become an extreme demand for women (and some men) of all different races. However we want to share how to avoid damage to your natural hair  with following a few simple tips.

Do Your Homework

There are many different methods for applying hair extensions and not all of them are good for your natural hair depending on it's texture and density do your research. You should know your options before making a choice.

The Right Stylist

After you've chosen the best method for your hair, choose the right hair stylist. While most stylists will get the job done to your liking, you want to make sure that they're also taking care of your natural hair. Ask questions about the products they use and let them know of any problems (with another stylist or complications with certain products) you've incurred in the past.  While you want to look good, the health of your hair is equally important.

Don't Ignore Your Hair

Even when you have your extensions in it's important not to ignore your scalp and roots. At least once a week you should (gently) shampoo and deep condition your scalp. (It is possible, no matter what method you've chosen)

Do It Yourself/Maybe

If after a couple of trips to the salon you think you've got the method down and want to try it yourself... think again. Your stylist has gone through months of training to learn the best techniques.  Be careful if you trying to duplicate from being a spectator. Make sure you feel very comfortable before installing or removing extensions.  There are classes and instructional videos that will help you be successfully when working with extensions. If in doubt for whatever reason, wait until your next appointment so a professional can install or take them out properly.

Too Much of Anything is a Bad Thing

While you can extend their usage by following these tips your hair still needs to breath every once in a while If you can manage it, try going without the extensions for at least a month every 4 to 6 months.

How to Add Curls to Hair Extensions

Want Curls with your Hair Extensions

Have you ever asked....how do I get my hair extensions to curl?

We have the answer for you. Bella Hair X extensions are made of 100% human hair, so curling irons and other heat tools are still going to work just as they do on your own hair.

If you’re using a curling or flat iron use low heat settings and use a heat protectant spray. You should actually be doing this on your natural hair anyway to prevent damage and breakage.

For Fusion or Tape-In extensions, do not to get the heat tool too close to the bonds. The heat will soften the bonds and make them loose.

You can also get great curls without heat. This is ideal because heat products can damage and dry out extensions (just as they can to your own hair). It can also be a time-saver for busy mornings.

For Clip-Ins, wash and moisturize the extensions and then roll the hair into Velcro Hair Curlers. Let them dry overnight, and then unwind the extensions when they’re dry. Then place them in your hair as you normally would.

Curlers work for the permanent methods too. Roll them in your favorite foam curlers right along with your natural hair. Put your hair in curlers when it’s damp but almost dry, if it’s soaking wet, it probably won’t dry in time. (Remember, hair extensions take a bit longer to dry.) Take out your curlers in the morning, do any necessary touch-ups and re-curls, and you’re good to go!

The Right Extensions for you

How to choose the right Extensions for your Hair

We get asked a lot on which type of extension will work best. Not every person has the same hair, so the answers will differ depending on your hair texture.

Here is our suggestion on how to choose:

Daily Wear Clip In’s- There aren’t a lot of options for someone who wants extensions for a day. The most popular would be clip in extensions. They usually don’t take very long to put in and can generally be done on your own.
**Things to remember** Keeping clip in extensions on for an extended time can cause damage to your hair. Remember to take them out daily and do not sleep with them in.

Permanent: This is where you will have most of your hair extension options. Most hair extension methods last anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months.
Tape in- Tape in extensions have gained significant popularity over the last 2 years. People are unsure on having tape put in their hair, but tape is actually less damaging than other hair extension methods. Tape in extensions are great for women who want to keep their extensions in for 6-8 weeks. This method is not recommended with thin hair.
I Tip- This method is done by using beads/rings. Your hair is pulled through the ring and then the ring is compressed to ensure a strong hold. The hold time is 2-3 months with this method. This method is not recommended for people with short or thin hair.
Keratin- Will take longer to install than most other permanent methods, but will last up to 3 months. The keratin is a protein based polymer that is clear and will match any hair color.

With your new extensions in, you need to know that tips and tricks of maintaining them. You can find out more information to your questions by contacting us at customerservice@bellahairx.com or visit our website www.bellahairx.com

Clip In Extensions - Pros and Cons

Clip In Extensions

Have you always desired to have long hair but did not have the time to maintain and take care of them? Do you envy celebrities like Demi Moore and Lindsay Lohan who have long, straight hair? Well, you will be surprised to know that many of the celebrities with long, curly or straight hair, put on hair extensions. Yup! they are not real hair. Earlier, hair extensions were the prerogative of the rich and the famous as it cost a lot of money to get them applied at a salon. But now, with clip in hair extensions from Bella Hair X, every woman can make her dream of getting long hair a reality.

Clip in Hair Extensions

Clip in hair extensions from Bella Hair X are made from natural hair. They come in a variety of shades such as black, dark brown, light brown, blond, etc. so that a woman can choose the one which is almost the same color as her natural hair. Clip in hair extensions not only add length to the hair, they add a lot of depth and volume to it too.

Wearing clip in hair extensions is quite easy. They come in the form of strands of hair, attached with a small-sized clip. This clip can be opened and snapped under the natural hair of the woman. To apply them at home, the natural hair have to be first divided into a number of small sections, approximately of one inch. After that, the extensions are snapped under the natural hair in each of these sections. Although, clip in hair extensions are very easy to apply, a woman should look at the pros and cons carefully, before opting for them.

Pros and Cons

The main advantage of clip in human hair extensions from Bella Hair X is that with a little practice, they can be easily applied by a woman at home itself. This saves the hassle of going to a hair salon and getting the hair extensions done. The second advantage of these hair extensions is that a woman does not need to spend a lot of money on them. The only time she has to spend is when she is buying these hair extensions. After that, no money is required for putting them on as it can be done at home easily. Another advantage is that it takes just a few minutes to put them on and to remove them, thus saving a lot of time for the woman. Lastly, clip in hair extensions look almost similar to the natural hair and a woman can style them whichever way she wants. She can curl them or straighten them or roll them in a bun.

Speaking of pros and cons, their biggest disadvantage is that a woman has to be very careful with them as sometimes they can fall off her hair especially if not applied in a proper way. Another of their drawbacks is that if the woman moves her hair to the side, the micro clips of the hair extensions can be seen, more so if the woman has thin hair.

Bella Hair X Clip in hair extensions can be worn by a woman on any special occasion or daily to spice up her look. However, a woman should be very careful when buying them as the ones which come cheap and are of poor quality can sometimes damage a woman's natural hair.  With these things in place, a woman can get the much desired long, stylish and stunning hair using clip in hair extensions.

Hair Extension Techniques 101

hair extensions 101

Extension Techniques:

Bonding or gluing: You will need to use the weft hair extensions and bonding glue for this method. The glue is used sparingly on the weft and placed near the scalp on your natural hair. Always follow the instructions on the bottle for proper usage and removal. This technique lasts 2–6 weeks.

Weaving or sewing: The natural hair must have a "track" in order for it to be sewn in. One method of building a "track" is to cornrow the natural hair and then sew the hair extension onto the "track" with a weaving needle and thread. This technique lasts 4–8 weeks.

Fusion: This is a strand-by-strand method of bonding the hair. The hair can be attached using glue or micro-link application methods. Use loose strand hair extensions like I-Tip or U-Tip, and then "bond" onto the natural hair, near the scalp. This technique will give a more natural look adding length, volume and highlights. This technique lasts 3–6 weeks.

Clip-in or ready-to-wear: This is a "quick style" technique that doesn't require a lot of time or effort. These hair extensions are usually quick and easy to put on and take off. It is a simple and quick way to change your look. This technique is for daily wear.

Tape-in hair: Pre-taped pieces of hair are safely adhered directly to the natural hair with a uniquely formulated adhesive which helps minimize damage and keep hair intact. This technique lasts 3–6 weeks.
